About me
Hi, I’m Michael. I’m from the north of Portugal and live in Barcelos, about an hour and a half from Pinhão.

I’ve been to the Douro and to Porto many times, mostly for the landscapes and the wine, and I like helping friends plan their trips here. Douro Atlas puts what I’d tell them in one place: what’s worth your time, what it costs, and what changed this year.
Every price and timetable on the site shows the date I checked it, and links to where it came from. When a source is a travel blog or a forum rather than the operator, I say so.
How the guide is made
Facts come from the people who run things: CP for the trains, IPMA for the weather, the quintas and boat operators for their prices. Travellers’ questions come from what people actually ask on Reddit and in travel forums, and each page tries to answer them.
The map on the homepage is painted from open data: OpenStreetMap for the river, roads, railway and quintas, and open elevation data for the hills. No AI drew it.
I’m not a travel agent and I don’t sell trips. Some links earn a commission, and here is how that works.
Spotted a mistake?
Prices and timetables in the Douro change every season. If something on the site is out of date, write to [email protected] and I’ll fix it.
